Our Mission

We are dedicated to relentlessly advocating for the rights of individuals and families when they need it most. We are committed to satisfying the unique objectives of each client by providing solutions customized to individual needs.
We provide consultations for $300 during which one of our experienced attorneys will explain the law as it applies to a specific fact situation. Our fees vary depending on the complexities of each case. We will certainly go to court for cases that must be tried. However, we always explore options to settle cases when settlement is in the best interests of our client. Settlement of cases also significantly reduces attorneys fees.

Steve Valentine

Lawyer

Steve Valentine is the proud father of 3 adult sons, all Eagle Scouts, and grandfather of one grandson. Steve is active in the community, having served on the Beaufort Planning Board, the Tiller School Board of Directors and as past president of the Carteret County Bar Association. He is an avid sailor and scuba diver, and enjoys back-packing and camping trips with his sons.

Steve Valentine has practiced law in Beaufort, NC continuously since 1991. He finished law school at Wake Forest University in 1980 and practiced for 2 years with his father's firm (Valentine, Adams & Lamar) in Nashville, NC. His father was elected to the U.S. Congress for the 2nd congressional district in 1982. Motivated by a desire to serve his country and to travel, Steve joined the USAF as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) in 1982 where he was stationed in Washington State, Georgia and Maryland and rose to the rank of Major. In 1991, he was separated from the USAF with an honorable discharge and returned to civilian life, joining Claude Wheatly's firm in Beaufort.

In 2008, David McFadyen, (the elected District Attorney for many years) and Valentine joined forces to form Valentine & McFadyen, where they practiced together until 2019 when David left to take a job with the Craven County Sheriff. They remain close friends. Steve has focused much of his practice for the last 25 years on family law.  Recently, he has become involved in several high-profile eminent domain cases (more commonly known as "land condemnation" cases). In one of these cases, Steve and Jim Thompson represented 5 home or landowners on West Beaufort Road where property was flooded by run off and drainage caused by the new Beaufort bridge and connecting road to Highway 101. The cases were settled with the Department of Transportation (DOT) for nearly $900,000.00.

More recently, a Town Creek property owned by Mainsail Development Group was rendered unusable by the same DOT project. Steve and Jim, along with an attorney from Wendell, teamed up and recovered an $8.6 million settlement, which was covered in Lawyers Weekly magazine

Valentine is employed full time in this law practice and looks forward to serving you.
